First Champions League Games of 2019

The Champions League came back today with 2 games in the knockout stage. PSG played against Manchester United and AS Roma played FC Porto.

PSG X MANCHESTER UNITED – PSG is one of the tournament favorites but with the injuries of Cavani and Neymar they were not going into the game with convincing team. Ever since the sacking of Jose Mourinho United have been on an inspired form with 11 games without defeat. The game was scoreless until Kimpembe in the 53 minute scored followed by Mbappe 7 minutes later. In the final minutes of the game a foul on Brazilian Dani Alves saw Manchester United’s main threat get sent off with his second yellow. With a 2-0 win PSG should be fine for their home leg where they would have to lose by 3 goals to be disqualified.

AS ROMA X FC PORTO – AS Roma have been showing their dominance in European soccer these past couple of years by getting good results against world class teams. FC Porto’s history in the Champions League has been the same for a couple of years, pass the group stage but lose at the first round of the knockout stage. After a very uneventful game 19 year old Nicolo Zaniolo slotted 2 goals by Iker Casillas to make the scoreline 2-0. Just 2 minutes after the goal Lopez scores for Porto but it is not enough to take the win away from Roma. With a 2-1 win at home anything is possible at the second leg in Porto on the 6th of March.

There are more Champions League action coming your way tomorrow and next weeks. Real Madrid plays Ajax tomorrow as they hope to keep their chances alive of winning the title 4 times in a row.
